RESUMO

In this work, the properties of colored interference thin films grown by an electrochemical pulsed current process developed at Fundação Centro Tecnológico de Minas Gerais CETEC, using sulfochromic solution with a low chromium concentration at different temperatures were investigated. The physical, morphological and mechanical characteristics as well as wear abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance of colored stainless steel were evaluated. By the characterization of these materials, the influence of growth temperature of the film on the properties of the material was assessed. It was found that the kinetics of the coloration process in low chromium concentration is exponentially affected by temperature and the colored interference golden film grown at different temperatures are porous and have thickness of about 130nm. The surface roughness of films grown at temperatures of 35C, 55C and 75C is significantly higher than the film roughness obtained at 25C. From depth-sensing indentation experiments it was observed two phenomena: pile up for the uncoated substrate and sink-in for the colored stainless steel. The mechanical properties of the colored stainless steel are influenced by temperature of coloration process. The film grown at 75C are softer than the ones colored in 25C, 35C and 55C. The pit corrosion resistance of colored stainless steel are independent of process temperature, however the wear abrasion resistance increases with coloration temperature.
