RESUMO

Studies on the phase of the quantized electromagnetic field are in general aimed at seeking a proper phase operator. Even though there is no consensus on these operators, states with a well-defined phase do exist, and in our work we show that the field phase can be studied by using these states. After a brief introduction to some of the formalisms that try to build the phase operator, we focus on the Coherent Phase States. We present some of their phase proprieties and analyse the product of variances of phase and photon number using those states. We then study the "phase distributions" obtained from the radial integration of the generalized parameterized quasiprobability function and compare them with the Pegg-Barnett phase distribution, which is considered the most appropriate one. We find that for certain values of the parameters involved, there is an almost complete agreement between both distributions, in the case of a coherent state as well as for the highly nonclassical "Schrödinger cat state".
