RESUMO

The increasing usage of circulating fluidized beds in gas-solid processes enphasizes the need of further theoretical and experimental studies of these equipments. Improvements are introduced decurring from experience in the field, many times without knowledge of the basic phenomenology behind. The secondary air injection is often used in fluidized bed combustors, but the literature is poor in the subject, although important it is for atmospheric pollutant control. This work contributes to the understanding of circulating fluidized bed systems through experimental studies of its fluid dynamics with secondary air injection and consideration of its mathematical simulation. The experiments were ran in a 4-0 m high, 0.10 m internal diameter riser system. The solid material was 200 - 920 mu m sand. The gas temperature at the beginning of the riser was around 200°C and the superficial gas velocity varied in the 2.5 - 9.5 m/s range. The data which were obtained made possible to suggest correlations for the pressure drop in cyclones and in recirculating L-valves, necessary in the study of the system pressure balance. The circulating fluidized bed fluid dynamics simulation was considered. The results obtained were compared with experimental data of this work and Itomother authors, contributing to a better understanding of the process
