RESUMO

In the present thesis are discussed two important questions regarding spouted bed fluidynamics: scale-up procedure and semicylindrical vessel for inferring fluidynamic behavior in cylindrical systems. To evaluate these points were applied numerical simulation by CFD techniques and experimental analysis by using data from laboratory and literature. The scale-up of spouted beds was studied basing on dimensionless parameters present in He et al. (1997). These parameters were firstly obtained from similarity, applied to fluidized beds. These dimensionless relations were adapted for using in spouted beds by He et al. (1997). With numerical results it could be observed the efficiency of numerical simulation in evaluating this question, making possible to analyze numerical answers of scale-up procedure for practical situations, when neglected some dimensionless parameters that govern the procedure. Regarding semicylindrical spouted beds, fluidynamic behavior of this system was obtained from 3D simulations. Numerical results reconfirm the effect of flat wall inserted in the bed, which was already studied and discussed by experimental techniques and can be found in some papers of literature. However, besides the influence of the flat wall on some variables numerically observed, it was also verified that parameters and variables like spout shape or static pressure have not changed considerably if compared both numerical results. Due to these observations, it could be observed that semicylindrical vessels have a similar fluidynamic behavior if compared with cylindrical ones. In this way, it was possible to identify which variables are more influenced by insertion of a flat wall, and consequent geometry changing in a standard conical spouted bed. These results are important since, for an experiment using semicylindrical vessels, it is possible to have a prior knowledge of which variables and parameters are influenced if it is equipment is being used for inferring data in a cylindrical spouted bed.
