RESUMO

The aim of this study was to evaluate the reliability of bone measurement in tomographic slices of the maxilla and mandible, in pre-determined regions of a dry edentulous skull, obtained through a Quint Sectograph Linear Tomography Unit. The images were digitized and inserted in the Radioimp, Surgplan softwares, and measured above lines previously traced. Manual measurements were also accomplished directly above the images using a caliper and view box. Six observers, specialists in Oral Radiology, properly trained, attained the measurements in two instants with a 30 days interval. The results statistically treated showed that: The measurements did not show significant difference (in any of the two instants). Statistically, no difference was observed between the used methods, manual and computerized. There was no significant statistic difference in the evaluation inter-examiners. Therefore, it is concluded that any of the analyzed methods can be indifferently used
