RESUMO

The present study has as an objective to contribute for increasing the active interest and concern regarding poverty in the practice of Health Care. Also to contribute for articulating better answers to the problems involving the people assisted by Health services, mainly in Eldorado and other cities in Vale do Ribeira. Poverty, one cant ignore, is an intrinsic part of contemporary Brazil, and its reduction will not only demand economic and social policies nationwide, but also specific actions in the local spaces and in the area of daily cohabitation. The effective exercise of citizenship involves, among others things, providing adequate access to public services. The lack of professional capacity to adjust the services to the situation, which should rethink theory and practice in order to look into other alternatives, is much more than a lack of professional capacity. In fact, it contributes to reproduce the conditions of inequality, poverty, and, ultimately, social exclusion. We use the method of theme-field for the research, elaborated by Peter Spink, based on a post-constructionist perspective in Social Psychology; the theme-field results from a large revision of field and field research. For the analysis, we dialogue with theoretical references in the areas of Social Psychology, Public Health Care and Collective Health Care, as well as references on poverty, social exclusion and ways of approaching poverty. The research showed us that many practices of Health Care are detached from the necessary aid to the people who use the services, since the poverty condition in which these people live demands a series of revisions regarding Health Care, that is, in the practices themselves, in professional education, in the organization of services, in the politics of Health Care and in the management of Health Care in the cities. These conversations on poverty led to an understanding of the health conditions and situations the professionals face everyday. As far as dealing with or fighting poverty, besides the traditional ones, the answers had to do with the professionals personal profile and life style a position that doesnt seem fair for all Health Care professionals, neither for the situation experienced in Eldorado. We suggest that the theme of poverty deserves to be more recognized as a Health Care issue, especially the matters concerning the daily practices
