RESUMO

Research on the importance of incorporating natural resources into city planning as a management strategy. All in all it aims to approach the theme of city planning as an interface with the landscape and the environment. Initially, it seeks to identify the conceptual and institutional set of references which favor this approach as well as the implications of their applicability to the urban environment. Next, it aims to verify the environmental approach in the recent planning process of two nuclear-oriented Brazilian metropolises Londrina and São Paulo focusing on the actions and interventions intended for the valleys. It identifies the challenges and opportunities for their restoration and requalification by integrating them into the other urban public policies; hence, the necessity of adopting new, value adding urban paradigms on the remaining natural and urban spaces was made evident.
