RESUMO

The trash resulting from the cane harvest mechanically without burning (13 to 15 tonnes of dry.ha-1) normally has provided a good control of weeds in the area of stumps. Already in small areas, where the tips of cane is used for animal feed, the amount of straw remaining is the order of only 6 to 8 tonnes of dry .ha-1 and may not be effective in controlling the weeds. The purpose of this work was study in the area of harvest manual without burning the sugarcane in that the leaves are used in animal feed, in the influence of different managements of straw, in the incidence of weeds, in the number of stems per meter, in income of first ratoon and the quality of raw material, variety RB72-454. The experimental design was to randomized blocks, eight repetitions and three treatments: Withdrawal the total straw from the area, keeping the straw in total area and straw pile in-between. The plots were formed by seven lines of cane, spaced 1.40 m and 10.0 m in length. It was found that the maintenance of trash on the area of stumps of sugar cane, to bedridden, or piled: did not controled the weeds; reduced the number of stems per meter in the early stages of regrowth (60 days) but not the changed at harvest (360 days) did not affect the yield of stem (TCH), the yield of sugar (TPH) and quality of raw material.
