RESUMO

The dental biofilm is the primary etiological factor of the periodontal disease and its accumulation can be influenced by a great variety of local factors, such as removable partial dentures. The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible influence of the presence of a removable partial dentures (RPDs) on the periodontal clinical parameters and in the dental biofim of the connectors teeth. Fifteen partially edentulous volunteers, without RPDs, no systemic diseases, no smokers VV8re selected. The following clinical parameters VV8re evaluated: Plaque Index (SILNESS &LÕE, 1964) PI, Gingivallndex (LÕE, 1967) GI, Probing Depth PD, Gingival Recession - GR and Clinical Attachment Level- CAL; PD, GR and CAL were obtained with an electronic computerized probe. The tripsin-like activity on the biofilm of connectors teeth was evaluated by an enzymatic test (BAPNA). The data VV8re collected in two experimental periods: TO = before the rehabilitation and T6 = six months after continuous use of RPDs. The clinical measurements in TO and T6 were respectively: median value for PI (1 and1) and GI (O and O); mean value and standard deviation for PD (2,3mm :1:0,3 and 2,2mm :1:0,4), GR (O,7mm :tO,7 and O,8mm :1:0,7), CAL (3,Omm :tO,8 and 3,1 mm :tO, 9). For the trypsin-like activity in TO and T6 the mean value and standard deviation were TO - 5,95 nmollmg of biofilme X min (:t:3,35) and T6 - 6,31 nmollmg of biofilme X min (:1:2,75). It was concluded that, in patients with good plaque control, the presence of Removable Partial Dentures does not alter the health status of periodontal tissues and the trypsin-like activity of dental biofilm over a period of six months of continuous use of RPDs
