Educação de jovens e adultos : proposta de material didático para o ensino de química

RESUMO

Young People and Adult Education (YAE), a basic form of education, is characterized by its heterogeneous public, which involves a multiplicity of individuals who had no access to school at the proper age, that is, who suffered through any kind of exclusion process. For that public in general it is necessary to adopt different teaching strategies from the ones in other forms of basic education. In the case Chemistry, specifically, teaching materials which cater for the needs of YAE students specificity are practically non-existent. For that reason, in the Professionalizing Science Teaching Masters Degree program, I aimed at conceiving a teaching module which would fulfill those YAE needs. In this dissertation, therefore, a characterization of YAE is presented which revisits its history, in particular the more recent laws and movements which were issued in its defense in the past decades. Once characterized the context and public of this form of education, the educational principles by Paulo Freire are adopted as a reference in order to produce the teaching module which is presented in an appendix to the present dissertation as a result of this Masters Degree Program. With basis on Paulo Freires proposal that a generative theme be adopted, and also on the experience of the applicant as a teacher of Chemistry in YAE, the theme Paints and Solvents was selected in order to develop basic concepts such as that of substances, their properties and interactions. As the teaching module could not be implemented directly with the students, it was submitted to YAE-experienced Chemistry teachers for evaluation through the use of interviews and questionnaires with evaluation charts adapted from those for the evaluation of teaching manuals developed by Santos (2006) within the same Post- Graduation program. The response of teachers as regards the material was quite positive and the developed material is believed to present great potential for producing positive impacts in the teaching of Chemistry within YAE, given its characteristics as explored in the present dissertation.
