RESUMO

The present work through a path that originates in the millenarian tradition of the Neapolitan theatre and by means of the Homeric and picaresque anti-hero, seeks to approach itself to the modus operandi of Pulcinella, mask which constitutes in itself the eo ipso of the Neapolitan people. It proposes to create an imaginary and analogue bridge between Naples and Bahia, with the dramatic work of Eduardo de Filippo as a link between both cultures. The study of this authors biography reveals an author integrated into the Neapolitan mentality: the origins and conceptions of his comedies are a faithful mirror of the people he proudly identifies with. The second part of this work embraces, almost obligatorily, some aspects of post-World War Two Italian cinema, being the short period of Italian NeoRealism and its intersections into Neapolitan tradition the guideline of this part. Throughout De Filippos career he was committed both to theatre and cinema as an actor and scriptwriter. The third chapter is focused on the play Filumena Marturano (1946), inquiring how the female figure is seen and treated in De Filippos work. The translation of this play into Portuguese including notes and comments on behalf of dramaturgic aspects, and problems inherent to the translation are included in this study in order to facilitate the comprehension of De Filippos literary work and its imaginary bridge between Neapolitan and Bahian culture.
