RESUMO

The incorporation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to the educational practice has been a challenge posed to education professionals, and that is the reason why I observed the conditions under which the computer is used in the contexts of the qualification and actual work of teachers in charge of the initial grades of the elementary school. Those teachers had attended the Curso Normal Superior Veredas ? Veredas Teaching Course ? designed by the Minas Gerais State Secretary of Education and offered by the Faculty of Education of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (FAE/UFMG). With this study I intend to identify the difficulties that teachers have in using the computer as well as the sources of such difficulties. In the first section of this work I discuss the relations between technology and education aiming at qualifying the discussion about new technologies or technological innovations and I emphasize the possibilities offered by distance learning and the use of cyber learning environments despite the unequal use of technological advances and possibilities. I also discuss the field of educational computing as proposed in the educational policies with the objective of facilitating the incorporation of the ICT to education. In the second section of the work I develop a piece of exploratory and empirical research, using a qualitative approach. Through interviews, questionnaires and observation I analyze the teachers? use of computing both in the contexts of their qualification and work. That analysis appear the description of experience in the focus. I complete the work by concluding that the difficulties arise when the needs are not fulfilled and the possibilities are not turned effective
