RESUMO

In Brazil the geomorphologic evolution imposed by the Quaternary climatic fluctuation account for part of the actual biota distribution. Here we used parsimony analysis of endemicity (PAE) to analyze, from a historical approach, the distribution pattern of the flora at the Centro de Endemismo Pernambuco. Three most parsimonious cladograms were found. The Nelsen consensus tree of these cladograms suggests a well-supported basal separation between Amazon forest and coastal Atlantic forest, parting the Centro de Endemismo Pernambuco into two sub-regions, the lowland Atlantic forest and montane Atlantic forest. Among the brejos the separation occurred at Pesqueira and Brejo da Madre de Deus boundary. These results suggest that ecological barriers arisen at time of expansion and retraction of the moist forest significantly influenced the Brazilian Northeast woody plants distribution. Then, I argue that conservation plannings involving connections by corridors must to consider the most recent between-locality history relationships. In addition, as in Northeast Brazil did not exist any model in which we could test cladogram congruencies found in this study, I propose this one to be the start point for new biogeographic investigations involving other taxonomic groups
