Discurso e ideologia na propaganda de medicamentos : um estudo crítico sobre mudanças sociais discursivas

RESUMO

Inthisqualitativeresearchstudy,weinvestigatedpotentiallyideologicalmeaningsinBrazilianmedicineadvertisements.Theaimwastoproblematizetheroleofdiscourseinmaintainingasymmetricalpowerrelationsinlatemodernity.BaseduponCriticalDiscourseAnalysistheoretical‐methodologicalconcepts(Chouliaraki&Fairclough,1999;Fairclough,2003a),wetracedcausalconnectionsbetweensemioticandnon‐semioticaspectsinthesocialissueconsideredhere.Forthisstudysmoresocialdimension,weexaminedcharacteristicsandinstitutionsoflatemodernityrelatedtoadvancedcapitalism.Inthediscursiveanalysis,advertisementpracticewasconsideredintermsofthemedicineadvertisementgenre.BaseduponNewRhetoricconcepts(Bazerman,2005,2006;Miller,1994),atextcorpusmadeupofsixpossiblesamplesofthisdiscursive(sub)genre,producedindifferenttimeperiods,wasstudied.Fortheanalysis,mainlyCriticalDiscourseAnalysisandSocialSemioticcategories(Kress&Leeuwen,1996,2001),baseduponFunctionalSystemicLinguistics(Halliday&Matthiessen,2004),wereapplied.Withthesecategories,welookedatthemainrhetoricalexpressionsinadvertisement,pointedoutinspecialistliterature(Cooper,2006;Sampaio,2003;Vestergaard&Schroder1994),withaviewtofindingpotentiallyideologicalmeanings.Throughthediscursiveanalysis,aspectsregardingproductionandtextualcompositionwereconsidered.Further,theinterpretationofquantitativedataontextreception.Thisdata,generatedthroughanopenquestionnaireservedtoexplaintheideologicalinvestmentsindiscursiveconventionsarticulatedintexts.Researchresultsindicatedthatideologicalmeaningsnotedinmedicineadvertisementsusedintraditionalandmodernsocietyprsistintheexamplesproducedinlatemodernity.However,inthelatter,givensocialchanges,fears,anxietiesanddesiresrelatedtohealthareexploitedinasubtlewaybutwithamarkedpotentialtoinstillandsustainrelatonsofdominance,especiallybetweenlaypeopleandspecialists.
