RESUMO

This research analyzes the traditional Cowboys Party in the city of Cassilândia in the construction and consolidation of the cultural identity and in the reinforcement of the feeling of belongs the Cassilândia. In this approach are distinguished the following specific objectives: to evaluate the importance of the economic potentialities for the development of the city of Cassilândia; to identify to the profile and the motivation of the participants of the 36th Cowboys Party and to verify the factors of convergence and divergence that exist in the community when the event takes place. Therefore, it was possible to come across these issues: the perception of the population on the reality of the Cowboys Party in Cassilândia as an alternative of local development; and the effective construction of the feeling of belongs as well as the local identity due to this activity. This commemoration is projected as an event of great importance in the national rodeo scenario, besides being the most relevant commemoration in the city. The celebration has as premise the valuation of the local culture and identity, and it brings ally to human and social development and also to the economic development, showing nuances of local development. This valuation of the popular culture helps the society to fortify its self-esteem to become the protagonist of its process of development. Its worth to point out that the party is a partnership of the community to revive old traditions and to strengthen the origin bows making it possible to the social group to grow by being capable of organizing themselves to carry through it. With this study it is verified that the meaning of the party is to commemorate a happening, revive traditions, create new forms of expression, affirm identity, fill spaces in the life of the group, dramatize popular situations and affirmations, invoke religious history and customs, which all together contribute for the interaction and partnership of the community, allowing everyone to be recognize as a unique people. The event then discloses what it to be a powerful instrument for propelling a process of local development
