RESUMO

Exopolysaccharide produced by a microorganism Zoogloea sp. obtained from fermentation of molasses sugarcane is a promising material for biomedical and pharmaceutical uses with low toxicity and biocompatibility established. The present work is comprise the biopolymer of sugar cane in the development of biocomposite for bone repair with and without activation by calcium hydroxide and to evaluate the nucleation and deposition of hydroxyapatite in biocomposite, using the solution simulating body fluid. The process of hydroxyapatite (HA) nucleation and deposition was demonstrated by the technique of scanning electron microscopy coupled to energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). Morphological analysis of biocomposites with and without activation showed the deposition of hydroxyapatite in different speed and morphology according to the prior activation of biocomposite. The microanalysis EDS showed qualitatively by the deposition of hydroxyapatite through the identification of chemical elements and ions responsible for nucleation, showing that the activation process of biocomposite with Ca (OH)2 accelerates the deposition of HA. Preliminary results suggest use of biocomposite as bone implant or tissue engineered bone.
