RESUMO

The landscape corresponds to the visible unit of the spatial arrangement. It is made of natural or anthrop forms, as well as immaterial elements inherent in the distinct cultures. It can be understood in a formal or informal way and represented full of significations and impregnated with meanings. Transformed into geographical concept, it assumes different connotations, according to the theoretical current prioritized. It constitutes fundamental interest both for the activity and for the spatial analysis of the tourism as a social practice. The relationship between landscape and tourism goes beyond the idea of landscape as an âimageâ and involves the geographical, cultural, psychosocial and marketable aspects which characterize each period. It is directly linked to the public sector through common public policies, which organize and implement the department of tourism. It is also linked to the private sector, through public-private partnerships which make that activity take place spontaneously. The questions that motivated the present research are based upon these presuppositions. Which factors caused the process of decreasing of tourism in the âsiteâ of Fazenda Nova, if on the other hand, in that same place, that activity has been consolidated around the points of interest of Nova Jerusalem? Starting from these questions, the physical natural sites and the historic- cultural registries of that area have been examined, drawing a parallel with the present days. In this process we aimed at composing and decomposing and recomposing the landscape through poems, music, pictures, photos and reports of the local people who contributed to a reinterpretation of the landscape through the experiences of the âliving worldâ. Far from presenting conclusions, this study is an invitation to displace the âlookâ that âseesâ the landscape as a âsceneâ so as to âperceiveâ it and reflect on it as a âpalimpsestâ where the complex relationships society-nature materialize
