RESUMO

This research investigates particular ways in which culture becomes body element of affirmation in the construction of identity in the African-Brazilian culture, specifically in the Sisterhood of the Good Death in Cachoeira, Bahia, articulating the relationship between Brotherhood and bodily elements that constituent. It consists of a historical research using qualitative tools of oral history and imagery, held in the town of Cachoeira in two phases: the first devoted to observing the festival of Boa Morte and interviews with participants and residents of the city. We understand how important this relationship between the Brotherhood and the relationship of the body - as a factor that is - to detect expressions and cultural-historical meanings, contributing to the consideration of the african-Brazilian identity. The results emphasize the importance of considering the history and bodily practices in the reconstruction of Brazilian popular culture as part of teaching practice by considering schools as a place for research to understand it as a main factor in understanding and identity formation, and therefore it is necessary to explore how the dynamic processes of teaching and understanding of expressions of local culture, since education tends to assume the structure of the culture to which it belongs and culture, so if "proliferation" through the educational process . In order to broaden the discussion in the field of body culture as a way to enhance the expression, understanding and perception of individuals with the world and developing links with elements that surround them, is necessary to understand the matrix constituents of the cultural heritage of humanity in which we have entered. In this context, there are factors that relate to body culture manifestations of African-Brazilian culture, long perceived as lacking in academic value and margin of the formal school context.
