RESUMO

The present dissertation describes the chemical study and the biological activities of leaves of Pouteria gardnerii (Mart. &Miq.) Baehni, Sapotaceae, usually found at biome Cerrado around Distrito Federal and popularly called frutinha-de-veado, cabritão, sapotinha, leiteiro-da-folha-miúda, aguai-guacú or marmelinho. From the hexane crude extract were isolated mixtures of hydrocarbons and a mixture of a- and b-amyrin, a-amyrin acetate and lupeol acetate. From the ethanol crude extract were obtained a mixture of fatty esters, a-amyrin acetate, mixture of alcohols, as well as a mixture of ursolic and oleanolic acids. Extracts and fractions of P. gardnerii were evaluated for biological activities. Crude aqueous extract and fractions of ethanol extract presented cytotoxicity on BST model. This result was corroborated by another assay in which the ethanol and aqueous extract inhibited the mitochondrial activity of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) of the CALU (2mg/mL) cell lines. The ethanol extract also diminished the cell viability of another cell lines, A427. On a model assay to evaluate photo protection activity, the ethanol extract showed dose dependent absorption of the ultraviolet radiation in the UVB and UVA range with 50 mg/mL, 150 mg/mL and 300 mg/mL concentracions, respectively. In addition, ethanol extract as well as aqueous extract were able to scavenging hydrogen peroxide free radicals in a higher degree than ascorbic acid. Finally, the ethanol extract from leaves of P. gardnerii presented activity against Staphylococcus aureus. As far we know it is the first time that the chemistry and biological activity of Pouteria gardnerii are investigated. In addition, it is the first report about the occurrence of oleanolic acid in the Pouteria genus.
