RESUMO

The present work describes the phytochemical analysis, the isolation of the major micromolecular components and the biological activities of Jacaranda cuspidifolia Mart., species that belongs to the Bignoniaceae family, known as caroba, jacarandá and bolacheira, commonly found in the Brazilian Cerrado biome of Mato Grosso do Sul and used as an anti-inflammatory, antisyphilitic and anti-gonorrhea drug in traditional medicine. A mixture containing hydrocarbons of 15 carbons (pentadecane), 17 carbons (heptadecane) and 20 carbons (icosane) was obtained from the analysis of the hexane extract of leaves by CG/EMS, RMN1H, RMN13C. The phytochemical analysis of the crude methanolic extracts taken from barks, stem, and leaves through thin layer chromatography allowed the detection of the presence of tannins, flavonoids, naphthoquinones, terpenes, steroids, saponins and alkaloids. The high-performance liquid chromatography profile of methanol extracts of barks showed 4 major peaks with retention times and wavelengths similar to verbascoside derivates. Verbascoside, a glycoside phenylpropanoid, was obtained from the chloroform fractions. The crude hexane extracts of barks, stem and leaves of J. cuspidifolia presented inhibition profile of anticholinesterasic in vitro, similar to physostigmine. The methanol extract of barks presented in vitro anti-inflammatory activity and antigonorrhea activity, confirming its use in traditional medicine. No antifungal activity was found for the extracts and fractions of J. cuspidifolia Mart. For the four proposed model assays of antioxidant activity, the methanol extracts of barks and leaves presented activity. It is the first time that the Jacaranda cuspidifolia Mart. species is analyzed as to its micromolecular components and biological activity. In addition, this is the first report about the occurrence of verbascoside in this species.
