RESUMO

The design and measurements of a long external cavity semiconductor laser (LEC Laser) that can be tuned by a diffraction grating are presented. Initially, it has been considered the optimum performance of various cavity designs for coherent fiber optic communication. Following this analysis, there are the description and characterization of optical components (lasers, diffraction gratings, microlensed fiber) and oftlie electronic circuits for laser bias and temperature stabilization. Also, a method for local characterization of passive components inside the cavity is introduced. Then, it is shown the experimental results of a LEC laser operating in 1300 nm, including its tuning range and its frequency selectivity. Finally, a computer analysis for this LEC laser is presented
