RESUMO

The presence of geohelminths in the sand of the beaches in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, associated to the fact that the local population do not has enough knowledge to prevent illnesses, showed the necessity to promote educational action as a form of intervention. This work was based in the concepts of meaningful learning and shared constitution of knowledge and aimed to contribute for their formation and performance in the prevention or the minimization of the contamination with geohelminths in beaches. The process of education included training on the subject, through oral presentation of concepts and groups dynamics. This technique aimed to stimulate the groups to work in an organized, integrated and participative fashion, standing out the importance of the involvement of the subject. The data were obtained through interviews, questionnaires and observations and the evaluation was accomplished through the analysis of collective subjects discourse and content analysis. The contribution of control agents of endemic diseases in the production of educative actions was perceived as important because this group works in close contact with the population. This fact mediated in suggested strategies for the approach of the subject. The methodological proposal was considered efficient and possible of being adopted on the daily basis of the group, therefore it resulted in the appropriation of knowledge and contributed for the formation of these agents as health professionals.
