RESUMO

Native people communities of Pernambuco State in Brazil live in a continuous struggle for surviving and for being respected by society. For centuries native people that lives on humid regions near the coast have been pushed from their homelands by the agriculture and farming development processes. Society didnât respect native culture, there were many conflicts which exterminated many indigenous inhabitants and force the remnants of their people to get shelter in remote semiarid lands. Brazilian law recognize as indigenous people, either those individuals who say they are indigenous or those who are considered indigenous by other people. In Pernambuco there are 9 indigenous races who live in semiarid areas on the so called âagresteâ region and âsertÃoâ region. Some parts of Pernambuco state has not enough water resources and there are places with water scarcity. The Health Ministery of Federal Government is responsible for indigenous people water supplying. The process for water supplying has begun in 1999 by FUNASA ( National Health Foundation) and gradually water systems are been implemented to indigenous villages. This master degree dissertation describes water systems characteristics for indigenous village supplying, their implementation, their operation and maintenance, and suggestions of possible solutions
