RESUMO

he objective of this study is to prepare a map of vulnerability of soil erosion of an occupied section of the medium Rio Paraiba do Sul watershed surrounding the city of Sao Jose dos Campos, Sao Paulo State. The methodology used was adapted from that proposed by Crepani et al. (1996)to subsidy the Ecologic Economic Zoning from Amazonia. The theoretical background was provided by concepts on ecodynamics from Tricart (1977)and image pattern analysis. The TM/LANDSAT data were used (01/06/87 and 07/03/88)to prepare a landscape units map. Furthermore, a TM-scene on 09/02/96 was used to apply the Linear Mixing Model, and the result was a land use/land cover map. These two Information Plans (IP)were used to generate a map of terrain mapping units. The erodibility of each of these units was evaluated based on geology, geomorphology, soils and land use/land cover information. The algorithm used for this task consisted of algebraic operators. Using this method the thematic maps of the soil erosion vulnerability was obtaine.
