RESUMO

The objective of this work is to develop a methodology for studing the vapor-(liquid)-liquid phase behaviour of ternary systems and for rapidly determining the partial miscibility presence by using the commercial simulator PROII. The methodology uses flash simulation to do liquid-(liquid)-vapor equilibrium calculations simulation results are used to generate equilibrium surfaces, which help the study of ternary systems thermodynamic behaviour. Every system has three equilibrium surfaces: y IND, 1 , y IND. 2 , y IND. 3 . In the equilibrium surfaces one can observe if one system presents a gap of miscibility by observing a flat line formation. The number and extent of flat lines give the dimensions of partial miscibility region of a system. One can identify from equilibrium surfaces I points for which x IND. 1 = y IND.1 , x IND. 2 = y IND. 2 e x IND. 3 = y IND. 3 lines formed by these points are designated non-ideality lines ( x IND. 1 = y IND.1 e x IND. 3 = y IND. 3 ) and inversion line ( x IND. 2 = y IND. 2 ), I and they are used to verify if there exist ternary azeotropes. In this work one also tries to establish a relationship between characteristic shape of the inversion line and the choice of best solvent(s) or entrainers to separate a binary mixture by azeotropic or extractive distillation ...Note: The complete abstract is available with the full electronic digital thesis or dissertations
