RESUMO

The modeling of reservoir heterogeneities has been largely improved by the petroleum industry over the years. Traditional mapping (hand contouring, deterministic interpolation techniques, and polygonal methods) are not efficient in the prediction of reservoir heterogeneities. Geostatistical techniques provide a more realistic reservoir description, since they are based on the Theory of Probability. This study includes a geostatistic model, which incorporated geological information. Hetrogeneities are controlled by facies distribution; facies frequency and facies geometry are critical factors in the control of reservoir connectivity.Statistical methods were used to quantify descriptive parameters of heterogeneity in the sandstones and mudstones (fluvial meadering system) sampled in Baixa do Algodão Field, Potiguar Basin, Brazil. These include well logs, core analysis, facies description, diagenesis avaluation, and .standard core measurements. Cross sections, facies maps (texturaI , geometrical, andvertical variability) and isoproportion maps were generated, in order to allow accurate estimates of sand body morphology and widthldepth ratio geometry. Log facies were simulated in regular grids; using geostatistical techniques such as Gaussiãn Truncated and Sequencial lndicator Simulation. Differences in the answering of algoritms were compared to the geological model, and the best choice was chosen. A 2-D fluid-flow simulation was developed in two cross sections. The purpouse of this fluid-flow simulation is the prediction of reservoir architecture, including sand bocly connectivity
