RESUMO

In this work a methodology is described to prepare blends of EPDM and PAni by mechanical mixture. PAni was synthesized by chemical polymerization in a pilot-plant scale and doped with p-toluene sulfonic acid (PAni-TSA) or dodecybenzene sulfonic acid (PAni-DBSA). Different doping methods were used: solution, grinding in a mortar and reactive processing. The last two methods were used only for PAni-DBSA. The effect of the processing conditions on the mechanical and conductive properties was studied for both blends. PAni- TSA and PAni-DBSA act as reinforcing and conductive fillers for EPDM. A crosslinking agent (dicumyl peroxide) was used for EPDM/ PAni-TSA blends, however it was not possible to use the same system with PAni-DBSA. Swelling measurements with the blends showed that EPDM is partially soluble, showing partial interaction between the components. Other crosslinking agensts were also studied, such as: fenolic resin and electron beam irradiation. Both gave good results, however, the electron beam method produced higher electrical conductivity. It was inverted the relative concentrations of the blends components preparing mixtures of PAni-DBSA with 10, 20 and 30 %(w/w) of EPDM in an internal mixer (150 °C and 50 rpm). The blends were laminated into films showing good mechanical properties, self-support and with electrical conductivity of 10, 10 and 10 S cm for 10, 20 and 30 %(w/w) of EPDM, respectively. These fiIms were used as electrode for capacitors and photoelectrochemical devices.
