RESUMO

The floral biology of some "caatinga" vegetation species was studied with emphasis on the interactionsbetween the plants and the local fauna in relation to the pollination processo Aspects of floral phenology and reproductive system were also abserved. The field research was conducted in Alagoinha (?8 DEGREES? 27 S and ?36 DEGREES? 46 W), in the "agreste" zone of Pernambuco, Northeast of Brazil, at irregular intervals from 1984 to 1986 and intensively during 1987 and the first three months of 1988. The area has a hot, semi-arid climate, with annual average temperature of ?23,5 GRAUS? C and annual rainfall between 600-700 mm, and in its vegetation predominate the shrub representatives. Most of the species (65%) flowered during the rainy or at the end of the season, while the other 30% flowered along the dry period. Five percent of the species flowered as well in the dry as in the rainy season. It was noticed that the trees tend to flower in the dry season ...
