RESUMO

The aim of this study was to evaluate the Sodium Selenite as protection substance. It were made rectangular wounds (2,5 X 1,5 cm) in the dorsal region of the rats, in order to stimulate the growing of the repair process. The rats were then divided into four groups as follows: control group, where only were made the wounds; selenium group, where 2 mg of sodium selenite were administrated to the animals; irradiated group, where the border of the wounds were irradiated (6 MeV of electron radiation in a single dose) and; irradiated plus selenium group, where the selenium was administrated 24 hours before the irradiation. The animals from all the groups were sacrificed at 4, 7, 13 and 21 days after the procedures above, and histological and structural observations of the granulation tissue were made by means of morphological, histoehemical and polarized light investigation. The results showed that the administration of sodium selenite made 24 hours before the irradiation through high doses (6 MeV) of electron radiation on the granulation tissue has produced a remarkable radioprotection effect, as showed through the methods which were employed
