RESUMO

Arthritis reaches 1,8 millions of Brazilians. It may induce to incapacibility making impossible simple daily activities. Reached joints treatment is basic to prevent the deformities caused for the illness and to keep the patientâs muscular mass. However, such therapy presents better resulted when inflammatory process is controlled, being necessary anti-inflammatory use. These drugs become essential to disease treatment. However, anti-inflammatory orally or intramuscularly associates undesirable collateral effects. Such fact has motivated research of alternative methods for the treatment, as the therapeutically ultrasound (UST) and the topical use of anti-inflammatory. The topical drug in set with UST, technique called phonophoresis, has been indicated in the relief of the tissues inflammations. Phonophoresis is a simple technique of low cost, if was compared to oral administration drugs and it prevents gastrointestinal aggression. In referring literature is possible to meet articles point the UST like a agent that favors transdermal absorption of some drugs. Motivated for such facts, a research was developed to evaluate the phonophoresis in vivo. The results were obtained through in-vivo tests over arthritis patients, men and women, with age between 44 and 82 years. The main objective was to supply phonophoresis concrete data, through comparison the data gotten through the evaluation for the functional questionnaire Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) of the American College of Rheumatology. The patients presented themselves in two groups, one with oral anti-inflammatory medication and another one without. These groups had been subdivided in two sub-groups, one to receive UST and topical drug (Ibuprofeno) and another UST and placebo. The results gotten with the questionnaires answered before and after the finishing therapy sessions had shown to the success of the technique. In such a way, the work allows affirming that the UST use with a topical drug reduces the arthritis and increases patientsâ life quality, what was proven by the individual accompaniment of the patients and increased of the fact of suppressed collateral effect caused by the oral drug administration.
