RESUMO
An automated data acquisition system for the characterization of a plasma torch was developed. The system was applied to two types of (diagnostics: a study of external parameters of the plasma torch and a detailed study of temperature profiles of the plasma jet. The system was implemented through an analog-digital interface (A/D). The process of acquisition was controlled through a board of relays. The Theory of Si milarity was used for the mathematical treatment of the experimental results. Characteristic curves for the voltage, thermal efficiency, enthalpy and temperature were obtained as functions of the current and gas flow rate. Temperature profiles were obtained along the plasma jet using the enthalpy probe. Simple relationships were observed to exist between some of the parameters of the plasma torch.
