RESUMO

The current study has analyzed, from the social cultural aspect of the physical education, the circus as a relevant content to be dealt at school, identifying in the school environment what can be taught and synthesized in a regular basis. In order to achieve this objective, a bibliographic survey was developed to get the critical and historic fundaments in the circus context, which allows teachers to provide theoretical background to their students in seeking of value based rich experiences and significant knowledge. The methodology used approached qualitative research of action-research, developed in a two month program inside a public school, with sixth grade students. The interviews and classes were recorded with a digital camera and further analyzed. At the end of the classes a pedagogical DVD was edited to support and be used as a reference to the professionals who intend to use the knowledge in their own physical education classes
