Aspectos da expressividade de universitários em situação de apresentação de seminários: análise pré e pós-intervenção fonoaudiológica

RESUMO

In order to discuss the preparation of college students to speak in public situations, this study focuses on seminar presentations. The speech therapists growing interest in the field of expressivity may be explained by the growing number of clients who seek for such kind of help. Thus, the purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of a speech therapy intervention proposal amongst college students. The intervention occurred between November 13th and December 7th, 2006 and counted on a total of six participants. It was composed of six meetings of one hour and forty minutes time. The aspects involved in this intervention were breath and respiratory-speech coordination, experience of different states of body tension, resonance and voice projection, self-perception of speech production, specific experiences of varied uses of vocal and corporal resources, specific exercises for speech intelligibility and speed, melodic curves and emphasis, and the application of these contents in phrases, in a brief spontaneous speech and, finally, in the simulation of a seminar presentation. The assessment of intervention results was made in two moments of the study: at the ending of the last meeting and five months after the end of intervention. To investigate the effect of this intervention, the data analyzed was that correspondent to the three participants who completed all research stages: filming in real-life seminar presentation situation, self-evaluation and speech therapy evaluation of aspects of the expressivity before and after intervention, participation in the intervention itself and interview. The data corpus was analyzed by means of speech analysis as proposed by BARDIN (1979), and the following six categories were derived: verbal aspects, corporal aspects, interaction aspects, emotional aspects, strategies and judgments. In the four first categories, defined a priori, correlations were made from the data from before and after-intervention collected from the participants self-evaluations (filled out during the intervention and the one obtained five months afterwards by the interview) and from speech-therapy evaluation. The two last categories were detected a posteriori and analyzed with the data raised from the interviews. The intervention presented a positive effect in the opinion of speech therapists, who perceived changes regarding more than just the emotional aspects, and of participants, who reported improvements of different degrees and natures for each subject. However, improvements were reported in all aspects, especially those regarding verbal expressivity and confidence during presentations
