RESUMO

The book Brilliant Parents, Fascinating Teachers was written by Augusto Cury and published in 2003. A best-seller in Brazil, it has sold five million copies around the world. It is therefore an important text on education. The main objective of this study inserted in the materialistic Discourse Analysis theoretical perspective is to analyse the discoursive subject-positions, while ideologically oriented in their relations with the family, school and Church Institutions. By discussing the discourse production conditions in their relations to the production of meaning, we will focus on other discourses about education recently published in Brazil and refer to American, Finnish and Brazilian texts on education issued by official sites of those countries on the Internet. The fact the book Brilliant Parents, Fascinating Teachers appears on best-seller lists as a self-help book while its editors classify it as a book on education will be taken into account. Our aim is to possibly enable reader-subjects, especially teachers, to produce other meanings for the circulating discourses on education in Brazil
