RESUMO

This essay was developed in the city town of Toritama, located in the middle Northheastern spot development of Pernambuco. The main goal was to analyse the washing process of jeans used by the washer workers, to identify the amount of water used and itâs final destination, as well as to suggest a management model for the water used, which is a very insufficient natural resource in that town. The research, which envolves primary and secondary research, made the real recognition of the city town of Toritama, in the physiographic dimension, socioeconomic and environmental and showed a situation of emergent conflicts, resulting from the little importance given to the environmental dimension in the process of the installation of the industrial Center of Toritama. Research Involved 17% of washhouses in the area, whose results showed that there is a high consumption of water, with a variation between high, low and mid season. This studied variation of the washhouses, ranges from 5.000 m3 month during the high season, 500 m3 a month in the low, going through 3.000 m3 a month in the mid season. The research, tried to find out and understand if the businessmen linked the productive process itself, with the need of take care of the environment, especially the water. It was found that all the washhouses involved in the research had already installed the system of water treatment. The data found supported the suggestion of the management model of the water in the washhouses, whose main message is to preserve the water to make the manufacturing Center of Jeans maintainable, in Toritama
