RESUMO

Production of castor oil (Ricinus communis L.) generates cake and meal as coproducts which are used as organic fertilizers. Utilization of these co-products as an animal feed should be considered an important step in the process since there is the possibility to reduce production costs and/or increase its use in industrial recipes. The objective of this study was to evaluate technical economic feasibility and economics of installation of industrial pilot and commercial castor oil extraction units with the combined use of the cake and meal in animal feeds. For this, parameters for detoxification of the castor cake and meal were studied using a the Biosoft computational system which is a tool to aid decisions for implementation of vegetable oil producing units, to evaluate the technical feasibility and economics of the processes. It was concluded that it is possible to implement extraction units together with castor meal detoxification processes; and for commercial units greater than 100 tons per hour, there may be an increase in industrial recipes due to increase in value of the castor cake or meal.
