RESUMO

Obesity is a disease that has been taking an alarming proportion and is characterized as one of the main causes of health problems in modern society. According to data research the causing elements of obesity are 1% due to genetic and endocrine variables and the other 99% causes have extrinsic origin. Many researches consider that eating large quantities of food is the main cause of obesity, but few studies confirm this hypothesis. One problem with the data obtained in the studies that disconfirm this hypothesis is consisted of the illegitimacy of self-report. Based on this problem, studies about correspondence between eating and reporting may clarify and help in understanding obesity. This study is aimed to identify how reinforcing reports related to eating behavior (VI) influence accuracy, or lack thereof, with eating, and the number of items consumed (VD), in both obese children and children with normal weight. Eight children participated in this study; four obese children and four with normal weight. After the baseline all participants maintain high correspondence behavior. The difference on correspondence and consuming behavior of the obese and non obese group was not significant. However, the childrens consuming behavior was statistically significant, suggesting that verbal manipulation may alter the number of food items consumed.
