RESUMO

Psoriasis research indicates that, besides physical discomfort (ichting, skin lesions), costly and low effective treatments, people with this disease suffers with its non esthetic skin appearance too, and with difficulties to overthrow prejudice reactions (jokes, nicknames, insistent eye sights) from other people in different social contexts. In cases like that, the ones with low social responses abilities, independently from the disease, can take these situations as extremely aversive ones. In that way, this study objective was to evaluate if psoriasis people shows social interaction difficulties, and which clinical aspects and social-demographic conditions are more propitious to these difficulties. For this, 35 people where interviewed, 19 men, 16 woman, with ages from 14 to 77, all of them attended at the ambulatory of the Dermatologic Service at Clinics Hospital from Londrina State University, with at least 6 months long disease symptoms. This sample was characterized about social-demographic data (age, gender, scholarship, social-economic level, occupation, civil state and children number), and clinical aspects (lesion location, medication type, and diagnostics time). In this research were also identified, through the Inventory of Social Abilities (IHS - Del Prette and Del Prette, 2001), the social interaction problems cited by these people. This information was statistically analyzed. Beyond social-demographic data and clinical aspects, the patients were also individually interviewed to detail its disease difficulties. Depending upon the results, to evaluate some psoriasis case severity, in conjunction with the clinical aspects (medication type, lesion location, diagnostics time, and existence of other diseases, other than psoriasis), demographic data like age, gender, and civil state must be considered. Single young woman are the more vulnerable to interpersonal difficulties, especially with exposed lesions. At other hand, older married men account better intersocial performances. Diagnostics time was also an important condition to the presentation of interpersonal problems, because people with more diagnostics time showed less interpersonal problems, even young woman. But people with diseases other than psoriasis, independently from age, and diagnostics time, they tells about little social interactions. The disease compromises shows very different depending on the age of the participants too. For older people the physical discomforts like ichting, bleeding, scaling off, daily activities limitations, and other people dependence to do these activities were the main complaints. By the other side, the younger complained about other people critics and negative evaluations about their physical appearance, making them avoid social contacts, and consequently showing difficulties when having to do social interactions. These difficulties prevail at economic active ages, because production activities demands social exposition and presentation of extremely elaborate social abilities. Understanding the conditions that favor the presentation of social difficulties and developing integrated actions, as much Psychology, as the Dermatology, empowers and perfects joint procedures in benefit of these individuals.
