RESUMO

One of the basic prerequisites for a protected area, also conservation unit (UC) to reach its objectives is the development of a management plan, which will define the basic guidelines for the administration of the area and the management of the existing natural resources. Based on the knowledge of the natural resources and of the environments of the UC (soil, vegetation, wildlife, flora, relief, geomorphology) and the diagnosis of its neighbourhoods, this infomration is analysed and combined in such a way as to allow its zoning and the definitions of the management actions. The Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are important tools for the accomplishment of these objectives, because they allow whole data analysis, providing advantages from the qualitative and quantitative points of view. The orbital images also often used for the obtention of data of most remote regions and which still need further studies and surveys. The present work was developed in the National Park Grande Sertão Veredas (PARNA GSV), in the northwest of the Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The area of the PARNA GSV is of 83,363 hectares and is entirely located in the Cerrado bioma. The vegetation map was obtained through the automatic classification of images TM/LANDSAT 5, using the Maximum Likelihood algorithm. Another part of database (hidrograph, digital elevation model) was incorporated to the system by means of table digitalization of a map on a 1:50,000 scale. The digital map of soil classes was obtained by the some method, but using a map on 1:250,000 scale. As objectives, the placing of areas with a potential for preservation and public use/recreation inside the Park were defined. Then, criteria were defined, which were evaluated and combined to obtain suitability maps for the public use/recreation and preservation. After due consideration, the weighted linear combination was used to integrate the criteria into a single suitability index. The weights for the each criterion were determined by means of the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), developed by SAATY (1977). After that, the suitability maps were processed by the modulus MOLA (Multi-Objective Land Allocation) of the IDRISI. This IDRISI resource uses a heuristic choice process for the resolution of conflicting objectives. At the end of the process, the preliminar zoning map of the Park was generated, with the designation of potential areas for preservation and public use. The final map of the zoning proposition was defined by overlapping other zones previously separeted.
