Abordagens no ensino da prova e argumantação escolar: análise de uma coleção de livros didáticos do ensino fundamental

This study is inserted in the AProvaME Argumentação e Prova na Matemática Escolar project which has as mains purposes: to raise a map of the conceptions about argumentation and proof of teenager students (14-15 years old) in schools of the State of São Paulo; to build collaborative groups composed of researchers and teachers for the elaboration of learning situations, to aim at involving students in the building process of assumptions and proof in contexts integrating computerized environments; to evaluate these learning situations according to the comprehension of the students about nature and functions of the Mathematics proof. Our essay refers, particularly, to the first purpose related above and it proposed the analysis of a collection of Mathematics didactic books from Elementary School (5th to 8th grades). This collection is adopted at the School where we are teachers. Our study complemented the data collected by an inquiry about the theme, applied in 2.000 students. With the analysis, it was sought to identify the teaching approach present in the piece, in what refers to proof and justifications, as well as to estimate some influences of this kind of approach in the answers and conceptions of the students. Some Algebra and Geometry topics were analyzed, they were chosen because they were generally dealt in teaching and, therefore, present in the majority of didactic books and, also, because it was judged that these topics would make room for an essay with proof and argumentation. The analysis showed that, in this collection, there is little emphasis on situations that involve the students in the performing of proof. The opportunities of making the students elaborate their own assumptions are also rare in the piece. Much experimental verification can be observed, particularly, in Geometry, but this is not identified as transition attempts to working with conceptual proof, not even of discussions about the generality of an exam. After the analysis of the referred collection of didactic books, a suggestion of a teaching sequence was made about one of the Geometry topics analyzed. In this sequence it was tried to complement the proposal presented in the collection, broadening the possibilities of engaging the students in the conjecture phase and further proof elaboration
