RESUMO

The aim of this dissertation was to develop a methodological proposal for the vocal preparation of the actor based on an analysis of the voice training developed by Jerzy Grotowski, Eugenio Barba and Wlodzimierz Staniewski. After a brief summary of the authors artistic experience and the three directors careers, recurring elements common to the vocal training developed by Grotowski, Barba and Staniewski were identified. It was established that the guiding principal underpinning the three directors research is the promotion of integrated methods of working voice/body/consciousness that break with Cartesian tradition. This in turn leads to a series of technical procedures, such as a rejection of traditional methods of respiratory preparation and control, a bias towards organic and spontaneous breathing and a use of the socalled vocal resonators to explore and develop the actors vocal range and flexibility; as well as a vocal practice based on the use of traditional songs and singing techniques as a central component of vocal research. These tendencies were then analyzed using as a reference the fields of Vocal Anatomy, Cultural Studies and Neurosciences. The results of this analysis served to structure and systematize the author s own approach to actor voice training, influenced by both his practical and theoretical contact with the work of the three directors, and by his own unique theatrical experiences. This system was documented on DVD and attached to this dissertation to show in a practical way its efficiency and validity, and to serve as a reference for other actors and vocalists.
