RESUMO

This study presents as its final result the identification of the susceptible areas to the environmental impacts due to the urbanization process of Jardim Aureny III, which is in the outskirts of Palmas, the capital of the Tocantins state. Based on such result, some actions are recommended in order to promote the impacts mitigation during the study. At the beginning a lot of studies were performed so that the regional strategic attributes could be identified, that is, the factors which have most been contributing to the local environmental degradation caused by its urbanization. It was observed that the soil inadequate use and occupancy, the topography and the types of the verified soil in this region were the factors that should be analyzed. Thus, in search of the result remote sensory images interpretation and geoprocessing techniques were used along with visual and tactile analysis of the different types of soil. Furthermore, the survey of the springs and slopes via the georeferenced points in the soil were vetted in the database called GEO-TOCANTINS 2002. By doing this it was possible to create maps of the soil use and its occupancy, each one with its own parameters that were determined by its vulnerability degree due to the urbanization process. Using the overlay of maps methodology it was possible to identify and quantify the areas and also their vulnerability urbanization degree as well as the most critical parts taken by the road system and housing blocks.
