RESUMO

This study aimed to analyze the territorial dynamics of Cruz das Almas from tobacco production in the period from 1980 to 2008. Based on the reality of the city of Cruz das Almas, which since the colonial era lives on part of its economy toward the tobacco industry, survival means of many families, and a major export products, the source of large revenue to the municipality. This whole trajectory of tobacco production is represented by stages of growth and regression, resulting in various social dynamics, political, economic and territorial. In order to perform this study, it was associated the data and information researched by systematizing a qualitative and exploratory research, which began with a literature review, linked to information provided by institutions like the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Agrarian Reform (SEAGRI-BA), Tobacco Industry Syndicate (SINDITABACO) and Workers Union of Tobacco Industry (SINTIFA) among others. There were also interviews and questionnaires applied to tobacco producers, employees of the tobacco companies, cigar factories, merchants, all the elements directly involved in the tobacco sector Cruz das Almas, it also had the contribution of the iconography, expression of the dynamic element of the territory studied. Through the research it was found that from the constant fluctuations in the production of tobacco emerged new ventures in the city, setting up territories and territoriality, providing a new territorial dynamics in Cruz das Almas, preserving traditions and creating some changes.
