RESUMO

This work aims discussingthe particular character of the nationalism of some Brazilian industries, in the period when the economic subordinationof the country to foreign capital has increased dramatically, moreover in the six years after the "coup d état" carried our by the armed forces in 1964.Apart from the economicalend of the issue, the work also encompasses its political and ideological components, namely: the characteristics and possibilities of the nationalism of the fraction of the industrial capital in a country that has carried out the transition to industrial forms of the amplified reprodution lately and subordinated to the hegemonic centers of capital (colonial route). Therefore, we look for the answer of a long dwelling question for a significant parcel of the left wing of our country: does it make sense to talk about nationalistic bourgeoisie, holder of a project of autonomous capitalism? José Ermírio de Moraes(1900-1973)- an outstandingpersonageon the process of productive diversification and constitution of the Brazilian industrial capital has been chosen to illustrate this phenomenon. His choice is well-founded, as he has been active in business and in politics where he has been a paladin in defending his private interests as well of his cIass. He has an outstanding role in turning Votorantim one of the leading industrial groups inBrazil. Within a capitalistic frame that has not reached the plenitude and radicalization of its material and social forces, he has looked for the articulation of new representation channels while seeking, from the state, the strengths necessary to preserve the interests of the national private capital. Worth remarking that he was not engaged on the construction of a State-Entrepreneur, but of one that allows and controls the foreign capital in sectors that do not compete with and do not hinder the national private interests
