RESUMO

The present research intends to study social participation to implement the Rostos Vozes e Lugares, project, in Guarulhos, State of São Paulo. We pursue to understand who are the social people involved, identify the way they look at the places where they live, problems and potentials, their dreams and involvement means undertaken. For so, theoretical references relate to psychoanalysis, sociology and group health. This study comprises a qualitative research developed by a case study method. Scientific texts, documents, reports and files produced during the project development were analyzed. In order to deepen the analysis, 27 complete analysis of representatives o five segments comprised in the project development (managers, employees, users, entities representatives and private initiatives representatives) were performed. They were recorded, transcripted and studied. By analyzing the emerging elements arising out of interviews, content was divided into three categories: 1. Acknowledgment of the other; 2. Territory and public policies; 3. Social networks, intersectoriality and sustainability. Conclusion is such categories indicate meanings of participation for interviewees, with challenges and reasons driving them towards it, as well as its obstacles. It is evident the need of a permanent creation of participative devices acting in an integrated way and stimulating leading role of several public people, considering participation is still fragile as it depends very much on the activities created in the project. RVL is a device enabling to increment social participation, once it provides voice and room for other people in the territory, therefore requiring to increment the sustainability forms of actions arising out of this process, so that practices may efficiently become social transformation actions
