RESUMO

This study is mainly focused on the analysis of the significance of the Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics? practices developed in Physical Education classes for children between the ages of 6 (six) and 10 (ten) years. With the objective to present the ?Growing with Gymnastic? Project, of the UNICAMP Physical Education School as a possibility of application of its proposals in school classes, a course has been developed in the University for Physical Education teachers and based on this course, a follow-up was performed in those schools which accepted the application of the project. The program is composed by proposals of the gymnic movements developed under a cheerful perspective, aiming to stimulate each child?s potential without disrespecting its capacities. In a pleasant way, some teachers developed the contents of those gymnastics in their classes, allowing children to experience different movements with their bodies by exploring the most different materials and equipments, which are part of the gymnastic practices. Interviews helped to comprehend the impact these practices brought to children, analyzing qualitatively what significance the living of these experiences meant for them. Beginning with a consideration on a child and its movement possibilities, the practice of the Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics was focused as a way of motor development, in other words, an instrument for the child?s development. By reading what children think about these practices, the importance of the application of this content in scholar Physical Education classes was confirmed, not only because of motor stimulation possibilities it provides through dynamic gymnic cheerful activities, but also because of the pleasure these practices can offer. In this perspective the study investigated the reasons why children get interested on this practice. A motivated child feels pleasure in repeating movements that provide enjoyable sensations because these movements have a meaning for this child. The depositions were interpreted according to Bardin?s (1977) content analysis, and were summarized into registration units that defined categories which allowed the possibility to reveal what children think and talk about this practice and how they express those lived emotions
