RESUMO

This dissertation treats of the economy of Goiás in the last decades and it is divided into three chapters. The first approaches the integration of Goiás into the commercial context with São Paulo and the regional effects of the public policies as the “March to the West”, the constructions of Goiânia and Brasília, the institution of Rural Credit and the regional development policies, until the decade of 1970. The second treats of the consequences of the agricultural modernization in the eighties, largely influenced by the government actions in the Policies of Warranty of Minimum Prices, in the Constitutional Fund (FCO), in the disponibility of the resources of BNDES and in the adhesion to the “fiscal war.” The third chapter points to the results of the neoliberal policy at the regional level, showing that Goiás deepened its integration in a complementary way to the dynamism of the Brazilian Southeast and it grew, in the period, above the national average.
