RESUMO

The objective of this dissertation is to iniciate a study regarding some presuppositions which need to be investigated in order to allow a precise and deepened understanding of Kant s Critique of Judgment(Kritik der Urteilskraft). One can maintain that without such an investigation, the Third Critiqtle would appear almost impenetrable, inasmuch as it is widely recognized as presenting enormous difficulties for those who wish to interpret it; as, for example, it s highly controversial characteristic of joining the themes of Esthetics and Teleology in one and the same critical work. Faced with these difficulties, the determinatiol1 was made that this study should cOl1sist of iniciating a perspective of interpretation of the CJ through the effort of delineating a problem in a broader horizon, instead of a strict consideration of the text of the work or even the limits of Kant s Critical Philosophy. Since this horizon is precisely the relationship between Critique and Metaphysics, the exegetical perspective here directs one to an interpretation according to which the Third Critique attempts to bring metaphysical presuppositions to the ambit of Transcendental Philosophy -presuppositions which appear to threaten the critical edifice. And this, indeed, would result in again taking up the discussion around what one would say is one of the most traditional dogmatic figures of Classical Metaphysics; namely, the technical finality, final causality, as an inevitable presupposition to think about and confer minimum intelligibility to certam objects which present themselves as problems to Kant between the years 1787 and 1790: the living being, the organism, narure as a system with an end, beauty, the sublime. So, taking an explication of the meaning of Kant s project of critique in relation to Traditional Metaphysics as a point of departure, this work seeks to show how and to wbat extent the ontological and teological significations of Classical Metaphysics are deeply rooted in the technical finality, an inevitable presupposition in thinking of an object so contrary to the limits of critique as a living organism
