13. Dissociation of HNO and NO: leishmanicidal activity of nitrosil of ruthenium / Liberação de HNO e NO por nitrosilos de rutênio e sua atividade antileishmania
Ruthenium complexes type trans-[RuNO(NH3)4L](X)3 (X = BF4- or PF6- and L = imN, 4-pic, isn, py, pz, L- hist, nic, imC, P(OEt)3, SO32-), and [RuNO(Hedta)] were tested as antiproliferative agents against the Leishmania major parasite. The complexes where L = imN, pz, 4-pic, py, isn, and P(OEt)3 exhibited IC50pro ranging from 36 for trans-[RuNO(NH3)4imN](BF4)3

16. Imunomodulação e ação anti-Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis por Ouratea cuspidata (Ochnaceae) / Immunomodulation and action anti-Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis promastigotes by Ouratea cuspidata (Ochnaceae)
Ouratea cuspidata (Ochnaceae) crude extracts were added to experimental systems containing either host macrophages, or Leishmania braziliensis promastigotes (L566). The biological effect by the use of the hexane (OCH), methanol (OCMeH) and ethyl-acetate (OCAcEt) extracts added at different concentrations: 2mg/mL; 4mg/mL; 8mg/mL, 16mg/mL e 32mg/mL. The OCMeOH

17. Biochemical and molecular characterization of the Leishmania spp. telomerase reverse transcriptase component / Caracterização bioquimica e molecular do componente transcriptase reversa da telomerase de Leishmania spp
Telomeres are protein-DNA complexes that protect linear chromosomes from degradation, providing genomic stability. The telomeric sequences are G-rich and contain a 3 single-stranded region that protrudes toward the chromosome end. In Leishmania, the telomeric DNA is composed by the conserved 5 -TTAGGG-3 repeated sequence and it is replicated by telomerase. T

Phytochemical study and evaluation of antimicrobial and antiparasitic activities of flavonoids isolated from Myrcia hiemalis (Myrtaceae).

Chapters one and two deal with the isolation and identification of bioactive peptides from the skin secretion of Phyllomedusa hypochondrialis. The first chapter demonstrates the use of protemic techniques, mainly mass spectrometry, for the study of bradykinin related peptides (BRPs) present in the amphibians secretion and freshly dissected skin fragments. 20.
Leishmaniasis is a parasitary and endemic infection caused by Leishmania parasites. About 1,5 million people are attacked for cutaneous leishmaniasis, reaching 88 countries, being of obligatory notification in only 30 of them. Presented in all American continent and has Brazil the country with the biggest prevalence of cases. This study it was carried throug

The Leishmaniose, infectum-parasitic illness caused by protozoans of the Leishmania sort, is still one of the biggest problems of public health affecting about 12 millions of people in 88 countries, with the 1-2 register million new cases annually. Of all the cases of LT, 90% occur in Brazil, Peru, Afghanistan, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Syria e Anger. In Brazil

23. Structure-function analysis of antimicrotubule dinitroanilines against promastigotes of the parasitic protozoan Leishmania mexicana.
Although leishmaniasis is a major tropical disease, the currently available drugs are toxic and inadequate. We show that the antimicrotubule herbicide trifluralin has antileishmania activity. The present study aimed at deducing the relationship between the structure of the molecule and its antiprotozoan activity. Nine dinitroanilines, all of which were analo

24. Delayed-type hypersensitivity and immunoglobulin E in American cutaneous leishmaniasis.
Delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) and both total and specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibody levels were studied during an outbreak of American cutaneous leishmaniasis. Direct correlations were detected between DTH reactivity and either age or the period of evolution of the infection, and a clear association with sex (strongest response in females) was ob
