2. Can SARS-CoV-2 induce hematologic malignancies in predisposed individuals? A case series and review of the literature
Abstract Introduction Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may present with extrapulmonary manifestations, including hematologic changes. Previous studies suggest that severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-Cov-2) can interact with the renin-angiotensin system, ultimately causing increased production of angiotensin II. By reporting the cases o

3. Treatment-resistant bipolar depression: concepts and challenges for novel interventions
Treatment-resistant bipolar depression (TRBD) has been reported in about one-quarter of patients with bipolar disorders, and few interventions have shown clear and established effectiveness. We conducted a narrative review of the published medical literature to identify papers discussing treatment-resistant depression concepts and novel interventions for bip

4. Clinical Significance of HSCARG for Atherosclerotic Coronary Heart Disease and Reduced ROS-Oxidative Stress in in Vivo and in Vitro Models via p47phox by NF-κB Activity
ABSTRACT Introduction: Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a dynamic process in which there are interactions between endothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and inflammatory responses. The aim of the present study was to investigate the function and mechanism of HSCARG in the treatment of CHD. Methods: Male apolipoprotein E/low-density lipoprotein receptor-

6. Use of Diuretics is Associated with Higher Risk of Sarcopenia in Older Adults with Hypertension
Abstract Background: Sarcopenia is a disease that involves skeletal muscle mass loss and is highly prevalent in the older adult population. Moreover, the incidence of sarcopenia is increased in patients with hypertension. Objectives: The study aimed to evaluate the association between the classes of the drugs used for arterial hypertension treatment and th

7. Behavioral effects of Bj-PRO-7a, a proline-rich oligopeptide from Bothrops jararaca venom
The heptapeptide Bj-PRO-7a, isolated and identified from Bothrops jararaca (Bj) venom, produces antihypertensive and other cardiovascular effects that are independent on angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition, possibly relying on cholinergic muscarinic receptors subtype 1 (M1R). However, whether Bj-PRO-7a acts upon the central nervous system and modifies b

8. A meta-analysis on the association of genetic polymorphism of the angiotensin-converting enzyme and coronary artery disease in the chinese population

9. The protective arm of the renin -angiotensin system may counteract the intense inflammatory process in fetuses with posterior urethral valves

10. Candesartan inhibits inflammation through an angiotensin II type 1 receptor independent way in human embryonic kidney epithelial cells
Abstract: Besides stimulating vasoconstriction, Angiotensin II is also well known in inducing reactive oxygen species and promoting inflammatory phenotype switch via its type 1 receptor. In clinic, Angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor blocker like candesartan has been widely applied as an antihypertensive medication. We previous have demonstrated that a high

12. Influence of ACE Polymorphism on Echocardiographic Data of Patients with Heart Failure
Abstract Background: Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) polymorphism has been associated with different clinical and echocardiographic parameters in patients with heart failure (HF). However, no studies have been investigated such association with HF caused by Chagas disease. Objectives: To perform a genetic study to evaluate the frequency of ACE polymorp
